Sidemount Diver Course

Exploration, Emotion, Experiences

Carrying scuba tanks on your back is not a requirement to explore the underwater world. Many divers have discovered the pleasure of mounting their tanks to the sides.
Sidemount diving gives you flexibility and options to achieve a hydrodynamic position. Plus, you won’t have to walk around with heavy bottles on your back – just step into the water, hook them up, and go.

Who can take this course?
The SSI Sidemount Diver courses are perfect for those SSI Open Water divers or equivalent (PADI, ACUC, CMAS 1*, etc.) who want to continue advancing in their training as a diver.
Requirements to enroll in this course:
– Be certified as SSI Advanced diver or equivalent
– Be certified as SSI Deep diver or equivalent (Nitrox diver recommended)
– Logbook
– Be at least 16 years old
– You must fill out a medical form (if this is correct, no medical certificate is needed, but if any contraindication to diving appears, then it will be mandatory to provide a medical certificate of fitness for diving)
– Diving accident insurance in force (if you do not have one you can contract one directly at Xaloc, cost: €40 for annual insurance or daily insurance at €6/day)

Our philosophy is to create competent divers, safe and capable of diving independently in buddy pairs, with the same, or higher, certification.

In general, we achieve the teaching objectives in the minimum number of days set, but you must understand that achieving the minimum level that we require requires a lot of effort, both on the part of the student and your Instructor and that is why we charge this type of courses per teaching day.
We should also point out that we will certify you once your Instructor believes that you have achieved the minimum standards required by both SSI and Xaloc and that you would be able to dive safely with a buddy of the same level as you. We will not certify you if we consider that you have not sufficiently completed the program for which you are registering.
Therefore, the approximate number of days marked in our price list is the minimum assuming that you follow the course by doing everything perfectly the first time. If you do not progress perfectly, you will have to add more days of training until you achieve it.
The price is €150/day.

Description

The SSI Sidemount course consists of two parts:

A) Confined water session/(s) and open water sessions

In addition to learning the many advantages of diving with a side mount configuration, during the confined water dive(s) and several open water dives you will learn how to:
– Correctly assemble and configure the sidemount diving equipment.
– Adjust your ballast system and sidemount equipment so that you are perfectly balanced in the water.
– Manage the gas by changing the second stages as planned, if two bottles are carried.
– Respond correctly to possible problems when diving with sidemount.

B) Theory

You must read the topics related to the course you are going to take, and complete the evaluations and the final exam of the course.
The system used is online, that is, the SSI digital system – to start immediately. Each person studies at their own pace, through an interactive and easy-to-use program. You have access to the online version of the manual and can complete the theoretical part of the course in this way.
